School Shadowing

Our program for school shadowing involves having one of our therapists accompany your child while they learn in a regular education setting. As children with autism may face difficulties in school, our therapists assist in enabling your child to follow classroom rules, understand group instructions, become more independent, and interact with peers.
School shadowing can be beneficial for children with a wide range of special needs, including autism, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), learning disabilities, and emotional and behavioural disorders. Children who struggle with social interactions, communication, or sensory processing may especially benefit from the individualized support provided by a shadow. The therapist may also provide support to teachers and other school staff to ensure that the child’s needs are being met.
The shadow is typically present in the classroom, helping the child with tasks such as notetaking, following instructions, and staying on task. They may also help the child navigate social situations, such as interacting with classmates during group work or lunchtime.

Our key services include

School Visits

We will arrange school visits for students to experience a day in the life of a student at the school. This can help students to see the facilities, meet teachers, and get a feel for the overall environment of the school.

Student Mentoring

Our therapist can mentor students adjust to the school environment, connect with other students, and feel more comfortable at the school. Therapists can be assigned to students who are new to the school or who are struggling academically or socially.

Parent Education

We can help parents understand the school's expectations and policies, as well as provide guidance on how to support their child's academic success.

18. Can your child follow simple commands (e.g. eat, sit down)?

19. Is your child overly fascinated with spinning objects?

20. Is your child sensitive to certain sensory experiences or items (e.g. wearing a cap, walking on sand, playing with water or grains)?
